Louis Riel Day at Queen’s Park

Honoured to be at Queen’s Park yesterday to honour Louis Riel’s legacy, vision and sacrifice.

During his lifetime the leadership and vision of Louis Riel became a rallying force for the Métis Nation – his death galvanized others to carry on his work and the torch was passed on.

His sacrifice was not in vain.

Canada and the Métis Nation have taken significant steps towards a genuine government-to-government relationship. Canada has a strong relationship with the Metis Nation of Ontario and recently signed an agreement on self-government and how we will work in partnership on the priorities of the MNO.

Today Métis citizens can be proud of the progress that has been made towards realizing the vision of Louis Riel. Today all Canadians will learn more about the true history and culture of the Métis and give thanks for the contribution Louis Riel made to build the Canada we love.
