For too long the women’s movement in Canada has been underfunded, underestimated and undermined.
Today, along with Parliamentary Secretary Arif Virani, our government announced investments in 18 organizations committed to capacity-building and preventing gender-based violence in Toronto.
For decades, these organizations have been asking for reliable, predictable and accessible funding to ensure they can keep their doors open to provide the critical services that help women and their families succeed and live lives free from violence.
The Capacity Building Fund will provide $3.77 million, and the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Program will provide $5.28 million in financial support to these organizations in Toronto.
Today’s total investment of $9.05 million, and the ongoing funding we have committed for future proposals will keep those voices at the forefront of this movement.
These projects embody what the modern movement is all about: Supporting women and girls with diverse challenges by offering innovative services to help them reach their full potential and free from violence. Investing in gender equality benefits us all!
