Last night was an honour to be at Beth Tzedec Congregation for Yom HaZikaron, the Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism. The remembrance ceremony was hosted by the Consulate General of Israel in Toronto.
In 1999, I had the honour to serve as Chair of the Canada-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group. During my seven trips to Israel, I was reminded how fortunate so many of us are in Canada to grow up only knowing peace. In Israel, almost every hour of every day, you can sense the fear. As Canadians, we should never take for granted the sense of safety that so many Israeli citizens live without.
