On Friday, June 23rd I attended the last commencement ceremony at Vaughan Road Academy. For the last 90 years, Vaughan Road Academy has nurtured so many brilliant young minds in our community, and after the class of 2017, it will be closing its doors.
One of the reasons Vaughan Road Academy is such a unique and wonderful school is that they offer various programs to accommodate students with different needs, interests, and demands. In addition to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma students could enroll in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, or the INTERACT program if they had outside school commitments.
Throughout my time as MP, I have had the privilege of visiting Vaughan Road Academy and meeting with their students and staff many times. Many of their students have attended our International Women’s Day summits over the years, and we are privileged to have multiple current VRA students on our Toronto-St. Paul’s Youth Council.
Vaughan Road will always hold a special place in the hearts and minds of the community. Thank you for including me in your final commencement, and best of luck to all the students, teachers and staff with their future endeavors.
*Community stakeholders are currently in discussion about the future of the school building. It is our hope that this wonderful space can continue to be utilized and enjoyed by members of the community for years to come.
