On November 22nd – National Housing Day in Canada – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada’s first ever National Housing Strategy (NHS). This marks a serious and meaningful re-engagement by the federal government in housing, and is a key element of our Government’s plan to make new investments in social infrastructure.
This past Sunday, I co-hosted a summit in Toronto-St. Paul’s on affordable housing. We heard from many constituents in the audience about the barriers they are currently facing when it comes to affordable and accessible housing and we discussed how all levels of government can work together to address these needs.
My colleagues and I learn so much at these meetings, and we thank everyone who attended for sharing their ideas, questions, and concerns with us on this very personal and important issue. I know that I and the other elected officials present — MPP Dr. Eric Hoskins, City Councillors Joe Mihevc, Josh Matlow and Josh Colle, and TDSB Trustee Shelley Laskin — are eager to continue this conversation with you as we all move forward.
If anyone in Toronto-St. Paul’s has a question about the National Housing Strategy (or would like to learn more about it) please contact my constituency office at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
