Kurtis Coffee is a local favourite in Toronto-St. Paul’s and has served our community for more than forty years. As I have gotten to know the owners, Bill and George, over the years, it’s been a real pleasure to see how all of their hard work and sacrifice has helped their family’s business grow to become such an important fixture in our community. Since 2008, Kurtis Coffee has expanded to the Wychwood Barns Farmers Market on Saturdays, opened this location on Rushton Road, and hired additional employees. Bill credits this success to their efforts building strong relationships in the community, good products and hard work.
Our government is helping small businesses like Kurtis Coffee. By lowering the small business tax rate from 11% to 9% – giving Canada one of the most competitive rates in the world – we are making it easier for businesses to grow. We also worked with credit card companies to lower the fees that they charge to businesses. For Kurtis Coffee and other businesses that run a high number of credit card transactions, this change will save thousands of dollars each year!
Small businesses employ more than 8 million hard-working Canadians. They are the backbone of our economy, key to a strong middle-class, and also tremendously important to our communities. I am proud to recognize the success of so many small businesses in Toronto-St. Paul’s, and all of their valuable contributions to our community. And especially to Kurtis Coffee – it’s always wonderful to stop by and watch your hard work in action! See you again soon!
