This past weekend, I stepped out with my colleagues, neighbours and friends for Pride Toronto! As always, it was so exciting to see so many people of all ages, faiths, ethnicities, and sexual orientations come to celebrate and show our support for the LGBTQ2 community.
This year I was fortunate to be able to attend so many of my favourite events: Starry Night, the Dyke March, the PFlag breakfast, the Faith + Pride service, the Ninjichaag 2Spirit Stage event and of course, the Pride Parade!
I have been attending Toronto Pride for over two decades and every year the events grow and diversify, and for that reason, they still inspire me. This year we had the pleasure of hearing Reverend Hawkes’, beautiful, and final, sermon at Pride. He is retiring after serving as the Pastor at Metropolitan Community Church for 40 years. Thank you to Reverend Hawkes for your compassion and leadership — the impact you have had on this community is immeasurable.
Thank you as well to all the organizers, performers, volunteers and participants at Pride 2017. It was another fabulous and inspiring weekend, and one that should make every Canadian deeply proud of the rights and freedoms we all enjoy every day.
