On Saturday, June 24th, Na Me Res hosted their Annual Traditional Pow Wow, in partnership with Fort York and Mississaugas of the New Credit. Originally held at Wells Hill Park, the Pow Wow has now moved to the beautiful Fort York National Historic Site downtown.
The Native Men’s Residence (Na Me Res), located in Toronto-St. Paul’s, is an incredible place where lives are turned around every day. Since 1985, it has offered emergency shelter to Toronto-based transient Indigenous men. Its neighbouring transitional house, Sagatay, offers men and male youth safe, supportive housing and a culture-based learning to help re-connect them to their heritage and culture.
Their annual pow wow is just one of the many incredible ways that Na Me Res serves the Indigenous community and the city of Toronto. Thank you to Steve Teekens (Executive Director of Na-Me-Res) and to everyone who helped organize this celebration, and a big thank you to all those who attended. As always, it was a tremendous success and I was thrilled to be a part of it! Miigwetch!
