Developed in collaboration with Indigenous elders, knowledge keepers and educators, the KAIROS Blanket Exercise explores the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples with the goal of fostering understanding and respect. Blankets are arranged on the floor to represent the land, and participants are invited to step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit and Métis – to learn how Indigenous peoples lost their land and the impact this has had on individuals and their communities.
This Sunday, it was amazing to see the KAIROS Blanket Exercise in action at St. Matthew’s United Church in Toronto-St. Paul’s. Kudos to the St. Matthew’s Indigenous Solidarity Working Group and KAIROS Executive Director Jennifer Henry for making this happen! It truly was reconciliation through education – and exactly what the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action are all about.
