I was thrilled to spend another Canada Day with our community in Toronto-St. Paul’s.
We began the day with a Sunrise Ceremony, where we thanked the creator for gifting us with another day. Thank you to Steve Teekens who led the ceremony, and to the more than 100 people who came out at 5:15 AM to participate and learn! This is what reconciliation is all about!
In the afternoon, we had our annual Canada Day Picnic at Wells Hill Park. It was our 20th picnic, and every year new people… come and some familiar faces always return. Thank you to elder Frances Sanderson for opening our event in a good way, to Councillor Josh Matlow for joining us, and to all the volunteers who made today possible! This has become a beloved tradition in our community, and I look forward to many more!
This year Canada turns 151, so let’s look ahead to where we want to be 151 years from now. Our country is only as strong as the individual communities that make it up. So today I am especially grateful for the incredible people of Toronto-St. Paul’s and the amazing work we do to support each other and our community!
Happy Canada Day to all!
